REPENTEX

Repentex is about a world in which you can purchase RELIGION IN A PILL! A man watching television orders Repentex from a 1-800 number and allows his sins to over take his life.

A 16mm project that premiered at the UCSB Reel Loud Film Festival. This youtube version is a bad telecine which doesn't do it justice... but what can you do.

It premiered with a live accompaniment. The infomercial half was scored on keyboard by Jeff Phaklides on Piano. The second half was done by Nice on Ice.
the song used is called SINNING ON A SUNDAY and it is available for download on their myspace. I must tell you that this song rocks!

The narration was done live by Kelly Livingston with variations from the narration on this clip.

Director/Writer: Adriana Blancarte
Writer/DP/Star: Evan Kohene
Producer: J Ramos

Free Copy

If anyone wants a free bootleg copy of this... email me your address and I will mail it. No Lie. Oh... and I do mean THE WHOLE movie (20 mins) as it premiered at the screening. rzeznik_8@yahoo.com.

Moving Along

hey boys and girls. welcome back to the secret disease journal!
where have you been??

well, i know we havent written anything for a while, its hard to keep this thing
up with news. but have no fear! some news is herre! (Nellese)

people are finally starting to see some resluts (sic) of all our hard work!
the images are gorgeous, the animation is pretty neat, and we still have yet to see a disgruntled face from anyone whos seen what we have so far.

this motivates me more than anything, when people actually like what were doing. sigh.
Well, Adriana, Janet and I pulled an all nighter thursday night..i got about 2 hours of sleep, and man was it worth it. I am hooked on animating now. its addicting.

we are going to shoot more this weekend with another possible all nighter on SUNDAY.

if anyone would like to see what were doing, let us know, i would love to show off our movie methods.

okay. my fingers are cold. goodbye.

Secret Disease

So like I left for home (finally) and J got sick... poor baby. Mark and J animated this weekend. Let us all thank Annie she is here editing and might be here for a long time because we have to get this ready for Jeff tomorrow so he can do the sound mix. I got into town at 3 and still haven't been home but its all good... I love what has been done. We do have a lot of re-shoots ahead of us if time will allow. WHAT ELSE? Well... I got some new music from Al that will be featured in the animatic and Jeff and Janet met today to continue the gathering of sounds for the awesome mix that will take place. Ah! I can't wait. I am happy. :) And Jess made this:

YAY its 4am!!!

thats right, thanks to my, or should i say ADRIANA's, experience on the DAN'CING LLAMA, we learned that if we can stay up all night shooting animation now, then were better off for post later. IN fact, we have a wide assortment of post people and ideas, so were actually working our asses and our minds off to get them the footage!!!

sorry, its 4 am and i have been in the loft since 6pm. i had naan stop.
its ok but a while ago they changed the recipe of their TIKKA MASALA and now i have really bad toilet experinces. oh ya, i was wondering, if a Urinal is called a urinal, shouldnt a toilet be called a fecal?

Anyways...funny story, adriana and nikki went outside to have a smoke and they propped the door open so they could come back in. I needed to get some natural leaves for a shot so i went outside, but then...the trashcan began to give way....NOOOOO! i ran to the door and just as i grasped (groped) the handle, it went "click" we were locked out of the loft. Fortunatley a CSO was not allowed to go home on time so she could help us. Turns out shes interning on WAITING ROOM, the dramatic pause of the 106's. Anyways long story short...she let us in and we were happy.

we did some great things tonight, things i can;t even began to explain because, well...you'll just have to wait to see the movie. but i did a run cycle using STEPHANIES amazing art. oh btw STEPH, i had to cut connerys foot off.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Yay Sound!

Let's step back from the super sexy visuals and talk about the very seductive sound. We had a very successful meeting with Jeff and Janet our sound people. There was some talk about trumpets, backpacks, chainsaws, tomatoes, vaseline and glasses of milk?!?! Basically this movie is going to sound as great as it looks. So we have Jeff and Janet splitting the sound effects... and Jeff making a great mix out of his very own closet (it's a very nice looking closet). On the electronic side we have our composer Al working on some great video game music. Yay Titan Sting!

a question of ethics.

Ok, i admit. we took it a bit far here. Ya I actually am in quite a bit of disgust when i realize what is really going on with this image. It offends me.

and getting offended is something that seems to offend others. As if they dont want us to be offended by them, but what is really goin on is a discussion of ethics, morals, ideologies.

ah yes ideologies. that is why i like to be offended and i reserve the right to offend myself in order to prevent myself from becoming numb to the world.

A meat stuffed bear. thats what humanity is really like sometimes..you think he;s so sweet and cuddly and innocent, so much in fact that you sleep with him everynight. Little do you know, that inside him he is nothing but flesh and clay. And everyday that goes by, he seems to stink a little more.
And i should also note, you can probably buy so much security in the same store. But we went to albertsons cuz the thrift store doesnt sell used meat.

and no one had any live worms available this time of year. Big five is the shitiest store in Santa Barbara.

i should also note again. one last times. I wanted to feed the bear to racoons so the meat wouldnt go to waste.

that also offended me.

DON'T MOVE A MUSCLE!

so were starting to get some action packed images of sean connery. LOOK at those biceps! and that moustache....ooh and that BEARD. haha.

anyways the animation looks great. Mark Batalla, animator, is doing some sweet stuff. hopefully he shows out movie to his potential employers!! that bastard doesnt have any classes.

so he works for us! sweet.

The cells arent going to work for mackenize...dammit. just gunna have to print out some new faces. This has been the best learning experince i've had in years.

adriana says your high.

ok.

gnoodnight.

production is now on a roll!!!

after all the dilly dallying i.e. making set/characters that we're not gunna use, we have finally settled on what look works the best!
just to bring everyone up to speed with our slow progess, we, I, had started this project wanting our sets and characters to look like stufft figures, fabrics, cloth, felt...all that..a real unique look that somehow would not work with the designs we ended up getting from a certain Simon Estrada, character designer.

Upon seeing his designs i decided that we had to get his look in the film. but how? well, after looking at the option of just using cutouts, i wanted to try something using a material called foamie. Its a thin colored sheet of foam that looks awesome, and it is posable, so long as there are wires behind them, or glued inside folded pieces, this is how we made early arms.
after a few tests, i thought it looked good and it would work, so i planned on converting all of Estradas drawings into foamie characters. This process took SOOOOO long, and i spent weeks making characters, mostly sean connery, our suporting character. Facial expressions are a whole other story with this method and it was proving to be a bit too much work.

But i pressed on, until one day, i realized that if i was going to convert all of the mackenzies into foamy, that our film would never get finished. like.....NEVER.
So i made a choice 3 nights ago after a couple of tests...NO MORE FOAMIES!!!!
Why? TOO MUCH WASTED TIME! so instead i have gone back to Estradas orginal artwork, colored, printed and cut it out. and it looks AWESOME!.

I added another artist by the name Stephanie Cheung, who I contacted after seeing 2 of her drawings, i knew her style would work seemlessly with Estradas. So bringing her on the team has doubled production. and the results are gorgeous.

GO TITAN STINGERS!!!! YYEEEOOOWO!! sorry. that was lame.

Meat Test

So I went out and bought meat today. Mark animated it. We really got a feel for what we are going to be able to accomplish with the meat. This clip is off of the lunchbox which means the quality is a bit lower but the idea is still there. We also have to prepare the meat next time... this is all bloody and it smelled pretty bad to some. Anyways it was fun. Thanks to everyone who helped out today. Soon we will be putting up some cool photos of Mackenzie and Cuff in their real forms for everyone to enjoy.
